El Xupete Negre
Born in 1969, EL XUPET NEGRE, aka The Black Pacifier, is one of Barcelona's most iconic graffiti artists. He began painting the streets with markers in 1987 and then with spray paint in 1989. After filling Barcelona, Catalonia, and Spain, he traveled across Europe and America to paint the streets with his logo.
He is the precursor of the Logo-Art movement and its most emblematic figure. Active in the graffiti scene since its beginnings in Europe, he has become a cornerstone of the Street Art movement. He is influenced by Pop Art, urban graffiti, advertising and graphic design culture, as well as the language of street signs and art history.
The artist often paints a design, icon, or character repeatedly, which serves as a logo. According to the artist, his logo art is the most effective way to be recognized by his audience: people walking down the street. He uses his logo to add color to walls and people's minds, but also to spread social messages.
He has collaborated with skateboarding brands as well as sneaker, spray paint, and marker brands. His work has been exhibited in some of the most important galleries on the scene, in cities such as Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, San Juan (Costa Rica), Los Angeles, and Miami, among others.
